In loving memory ~

Vera Gwendolyn (Gwen) Staton née Alguire passed away peacefully on 11 August 2025. She would have been 93 the following Sunday. She was born 17 August 1932, in Lansdowne, Ontario.

Gwen studied nursing and practiced at Brockville General Hospital and Kingston General until relocating to BC. While living in Chilliwack, she met and married Bill Staton. Bill and Gwen raised two daughters: Cindy and Sue. Gwen would continue to work as a nurse after relocating to Victoria in 1969.

Besides nursing, Gwen was an active homemaker. She enjoyed quilting and was an avid reader. She was a devout Christian, attending Emmanuel Baptist Church for years where she was an active member of the Bible study group. In 2005, Gwen and Bill relocated to Qualicum Beach, where they attended Knox United Church. During their retirement, they frequently travelled, including trips to Greece, Croatia, and Austria. Motivated by her grandson, Jamie's, struggles, Gwen was a long-time advocate for Cystic Fibrosis causes, earning the Breath of Life Award for her work.

In 2014, Gwen and Bill moved into assisted living in Courtenay. In 2018, Gwen was relocated to long-term care as she suffered from dementia.

Gwen was predeceased by her brother, Merrill and her husband, Bill. She is survived by two sisters, Melba and Naida, of Ontario; her daughters Cindy (Roland) and Sue (Michael), and her grandson, Jamie.

She will be missed.

There will be no service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Cystic Fibrosis.
