In loving memory ~
It is with deep sadness, we announce the passing of Steve Lucas, Friday, Sept. 9, 2022. He was 82.
Steve was born in Brantford, Ontario on February 23, 1940, to William and Barbara Lucas, nee Turner.
Steve and his family moved to BC at the age of five, to a small farm at Mt. Lehman in the Fraser Valley.
He was in Scouts, the Army cadets and then became a member of the army reserves.

Steve graduated from Semiahmoo High School, White Rock. He enjoyed the fun and friends of the Vaqueros Motorcycle club. He did a year’s training in accounting but decided instead to pursue mechanical training and graduated with high marks from Vancouver Vocational Institute as an auto mechanic in 1962.

Steve worked at Pacific GMC in Vancouver for several years. While working at Pacific GMC, he met his wife-to-be Jan, nee Dagg, in a hiking and skiing club in 1968. They were married in 1970.  In the late spring of 1971, they decided to move to Nanaimo where their first son Greg was born. Steve then worked for the Jack Harris Chevrolet Oldsmobile Dealership for a few years. During this time, they moved to a lot in the Dolphin Beach area where they started building their house.

In 1974, Steve bought a gas station and auto shop in Union Bay, BC where the family also lived and worked for 5 years and where their daughter, Nancy and youngest, Bob were both born. The family then returned to Nanoose Bay and
finished the house. Steve then worked for Lakeside Motors and then later for School District 68 in the bus shop as a mechanic and part-time bus driver for 17 years. After developing eye problems Steve retired and later returned to School District 68 to do part-time mechanical work until he was 72 years of age.

Steve built a cabin at Salmon Beach and another on Mudge Island. Steve and Jan enjoyed skiing, travelling, and many wonderful fishing trips at Salmon Beach. They also enjoyed attending and participating at Knox United Church in Parksville, BC.

Steve was both a founding member of the Nanoose Bay Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Union Bay Volunteer Fire Department. For over 40 years Steve and Jan made their home in Nanoose Bay.

Steve is survived by his wife, Jan of 52 years, his children, Greg, wife Angie; daughter Nancy and husband Ryo; Bob and his wife Patricia;   grandchildren Nika, Sadie, Anna, Rei, Evelyn and Tadashi; his sister Jean and brother John.
