Donald Harry Hugh Kelly, Ph.D.


Don was born in 1931 in Calgary, Alberta.  He attended the University of Alberta where he earned an M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering. Don and Cathy married in 1956, and he accepted a position with Alcan in Arvida, Quebec.  At the request of the department head of Electrical Engineering, he joined the University of Alberta as an associate professor.  He completed his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana in 1968. He returned to the University of Alberta as a professor and later served as associate chair of the department. 

In 1993, Don and Cathy retired to Qualicum Beach, B.C.                                                                                                                                               
Don was honoured as a life member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta in 1994.

Predeceased by his youngest son Robert, Don is survived by his wife Cathy, seven children (David, Maureen, Janet, Colin, Kevin, William, Michael), fifteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
