Hymns as Poetry
Sometimes we sing along with the hymns, enjoy the music, have particular preferences for certain melodies etc. Singing together has many benefits, and can often (hopefully) lift our spirits!
Sometimes the words themselves provide comfort, and sound more like poetry when just ‘looked at’ as well as sung. There are a couple of examples that we sing at Knox that always strike me this way, and so I’d like to share a few verses from some of my favorite ‘poetic’ hymns – they seemed particularly relevant right now.
